The Woman Behind
Acklay design
What started out as a life long love for the Star Wars Franchise expanded into the community of custom built lightsabers in 2011. When I began making friends and contacts within that niche hobby, I discovered a dream many of my fellow nerds had: making their own costumes from what they’ve always envisioned but never found on the market. In 2013, I tried making my own outfit and sourced pieces for another. As the saying goes: the rest was history…
I quickly developed a passion and curiosity for expanding my sewing techniques and knowledge about historical Japanese clothing which is so heavily referenced in the Sci Fi franchise costumery. I accepted my first commission in 2016 and pushed myself (and still do) to learn a new skill or technique with each commission, improving functionality or quality or aesthetic, etc.
Now, as we enter 2025, with nearly 10 years of commissions under my belt, too many to count really, I’m so excited for what the future holds. I continue to have an entirely too long list of eager would-be commissioners inspiring me with their ideas and dream outfits. I have a jam packed schedule this year of massive, exciting projects I can’t wait to share with you!
Thank you for taking an interest in my work!
